The D5 RIID Kromek provides a unique high performance and versatile radiation detection device in a wearable package for military, homeland security, and industrial personnel.
The D5 RIID is a small, light, less than 4% resolution, wearable Radioisotope Identification Device (RIID) with an expansive radioisotope library and an ultra low false alarm rate. It continuously scans and accurately identifies radiological threats in real time, even in mixed source environments.
The D5 RIID combines small form factor with powerful radiometric performance and enhanced sensitivity. The D5 RIID has an area efficiency which is 62% higher when compared with conventional RIIDs.
The high sensitivity of the device means that any source, even very low activity sources, can be accurately detected.
An extensive built-in calibrated isotope library enables the D5 RIID to detect and identify mixed, shielded or heavily masked isotope configurations and confirm radionuclide identification across naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM), industrial, medical, and special nuclear materials.
D5 RIID meets both ANSI N42.34 and the more demanding US Department of Homeland Security Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) technical capability standards.
Small and Lightweight
The D5 RIID is only 660g, compared with legacy instruments often weighing more than 2kg. Measuring 187mm x 80mm x 70mm (7.4″ x 3.1″ x 2.8″), the D5 RIID is light and unobtrusive enough to be both belt and body worn. It is also ideal for prolonged one-handed operation and is easily usable by someone wearing full PPE.
Low False Alarm Rate
While constantly scanning for threats and maintaining a high level of sensitivity, a low false alarm rate is essential. With a false alarm rate of just one in 24 hours, the D5 RIID consistently delivers accurate reliable information.
Networkable
The D5 RIID can interface with or be integrated into existing systems, including smartphones, to enable reachback capability. Spectral results with enhanced resolution obtained in the field can be transmitted immediately to an offsite laboratory for secondary analysis. The D5 RIID can also link to a network of hubs and sensors to give a real time overview of a radiological threat.
D5 RIID's Additional Features
NORM Suppression
By simply enabling Kromek’s NORM suppression algorithm in the device settings, the differentiation between normal background sources and true sources is significantly enhanced, further improving the accuracy of your data.
User restricted settings
Further tailor the D5 RIID to the needs of your mission with the option for PIN-protected settings. Select which users have access to certain settings.
Set different dose rate thresholds
A total of three thresholds can now be set up on the D5 RIID based on your detection needs e.g., different thresholds for ‘low’, ‘medium’ and ‘high’ radiation levels.
Reset accumulated dose on the device
With a simple accumulated dose reset button now on the device, you can quickly reset this metric on the go without having to head back to a central location.
Store saved background files
Different background files are saved as ANSI N42.42 files on the device. Therefore, the appropriate background can be selected on a mission to accompany all new confirmation mode scans taken.
DEF-STAN and MIL-STD Testing
Alongside Kromek’s rigorous testing and collaboration of the D5 RIID, the device has now been tested in accordance with the relevant DEF-STAN and MIL-STD tests.
Localisation Mode
Localisation mode allows a user to pinpoint the location of a radioactive source. Through sound the device alerts the user with beeps getting closer together as you move towards the radioactive source.
Viewing Spectral Data
The spectral data which accompanies every collected confirmation mode scan has been enhanced to give more information. The “scale” button can be used to move through the spectrum to see all energies. The up and down buttons on the D5 RIID controls can be used to navigate the cursor to give the exact counts per second data at a chosen energy.
